Itinerary
On arrival, you are welcomed by the guide and transferred to the hotel near the airport. Cycad Guest House (BB) or The Boma (BB)
You will be picked up from the hotel during the morning. We drive westwards through the green landscapes, tea farms and rural towns. In Fort Portal city, we have a lunch break so that we can taste a buffet of local food. But we can as well order for a la carte. The city lies at the bottom of the Rwenzori mountains. We then continue to the lodge and relax to views and sounds of the forest. As night falls, we enter the jungle to see the illusive nocturnal primates such as bush babies (optional). Kibale national park is a tropical rain forest that is known for the many primates. Besides the chimpanzees, there are 13 other primate species. Overnight is at chimpanzee Guest House (FB) / Primate Lodge (FB)
We start this morning with an interactive talk about the forest park. Shortly after, we enter the forest to locate the chimpanzee group. The jungle walk along the narrow forest trails is refreshing. While the birds chirp all around, the primates jump from tree to tree. Not only do the local guides tell us interesting stories but also explain the chimps and life in the forest. Here, we see many primates. The highlight of course is when we meet the chimps in the trees or on the ground. We then go back to the lodge for lunch and to relax. In the afternoon, we take a nature walk to watch more primates in the adjacent Bigodi swamp. The forested swamp has a similar ecosystem to Kibale forest. Chimpanzee Guest House (FB) / Primate Lodge (FB)
We take breakfast and at the same time relax. We then drive southwards through the picturesque banana farms and crater lakes area. Soon, we take a stop at the Equator for the special moment as we stand in two hemispheres at a go. Afterwards, we enter Queen Elizabeth national park. Although this park is an open savannah, it has forests and crater lakes. We check in and relax for lunch. The sounds and sights of the wilderness further add to the beauty of this large park. During the afternoon, we do a relaxing walk in the Maramagambo jungle. This area is known for its primates and wide under caves. The Python snakes hide in the holes in order to feed on the unsuspecting bats. Hereafter, we go back for dinner and to relax. Queen Elizabeth national park accommodation: The Twin Lakes Lodge (FB) or the Katara Lodge (FB)
This morning, we transfer to Kyambura gorge. This is one of Uganda’s jungles that lie within the great African Rift valley. After the briefing, we slope into the gorge to watch the chimps. Without a doubt, when we meet groups of primates socializing on the ground or quietly feeding in the trees, it is an unforgettable experience. Later, we may simply relax at the lodge or have a sunset drive to see the animals. Lastly, we have dinner and a cozy night at the Twin Lakes Lodge (FB) or the Katara Lodge (FB)
We relax to a sumptuous breakfast. Thereafter we drive southwards to Bwindi Impenetrable forest. On our way, we pass through landscapes and mountains with breath taking views. Bwindi Impenetrable is indeed a unique mountain forest, with many wildlife species and rare birds. This jungle is one of the 2 places in the world where you find the endangered mountain Gorillas!! Overnight stay is at Gorilla Mist Camp (FB) or the Mahogany Springs Lodge (FB)
After breakfast and a gorilla talk, we set off in the forest to look for the Mountain gorillas. However, the trek climaxes when we meet a family of the Gorillas!! Interestingly, you spend a full hour with them. They play, fight and feed while we watch and photograph them. This is surely an experience that will last a lifetime. Gorilla Mist Camp (FB) or the Mahogany Springs Lodge (FB)
This morning after a heavy breakfast, we transfer leisurelyback to the airport. Again, we can stop at the Equator to refresh and take a pause. We drive through the countryside by road. It is also possible to catch the domestic flight* to the airport (optional) for your outbound flight. End
