Day One: Airport EBB – Arrival at Entebbe

You are warmly received and transferred to the hotel for overnight rest.

Overnight stay: Lake Victoria View Guest House (BB) or The Boma (BB)

Day Two: Entebbe to Kibale Forest National Park 350 km, 6 hours

After a hearty breakfast we drive west, birding to Kibale Forest. The drive passes through upcountry woodlands, cultivated fields and tea plantations. Make a walk around the lodge birding as the sun sets with sights and sounds of the forest. The Forest has 355 bird species with the highest number of records of the Green-breasted Pitta and primates in Uganda.

Day Three: Kibale Forest National Park

On this day, we do the birding nature walk in the park. Expect to see various rare birds like the African Pitta, Crested Guinea fowl, Dusky Long-tailed Cuckoo, Scaly Illadopsis, White-winged Warbler, Red-capped Robin Chat, Grey Apalis and  White-napped Pigeon. It is possible go on the trails for Chimpanzee trekking (optional).

In the afternoon, we make a nature walk in the Bigodi Swamp. Along the trails, expect to see papyrus endemics such as the Papyrus Gonolek and White-winged Warbler. Other species to encounter are African Marsh Harrier, Black-billed Turaco, great Blue Turaco, Grey Parrot,  Red-headed Malimbe, Snowy-crowned Robin Chat and Yellow-billed Barbet.

It is also possible to do  birding and chimpanzee habituation in the forest (optional).

Overnight stay: Kibale Forest Camp (FB) / Primate Lodge (FB)

Day Four: Day Four: Kibale Forest to Queen Elizabeth 160 km, 4 hours

Transfer to the Queen Elizabeth National Park with splendid views of the Mountains of the Moon all the way. Make a stop by the Equator and stand in two hemispheres at the same time. Enjoy afternoon game drive as the sun sets. This park ranks the best in Uganda in terms of bird diversity with over 600 species recorded. On the game drive, you are likely to see the Black Bee-eater, Blue and Harlequin Quails, Caruthers’s Cisticola, Martial Eagle, Temminck’s courser, Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl, the Yellow-billed Ox-pecker usually on the back of an antelope or Buffalo and others.

Day Five: Queen Elizabeth National Park

The day starts with a morning game drive in the park and along the tracks of the Kasenyi plains west of the national park. This area is famous for predators such as lions, hyenas, leopards with the antelopes and warthogs as prey. Return to the lodge for lunch. We then slope down to the jetty for an enchanting boat cruise along the beautiful Kazinga channel.

The boat sails close to the animals that stay in the water or come to the channel for a drink. Hippos, buffaloes, elephants, giant forest hogs and crocodiles are abundant. Many bird species feed in the water or on the banks including the African Skimmer, Common Sandpiper, Gray-headed Gull, Great white and Pink backed Pelicans, green backed Heron and Three-banded Plover. The cruise ends down by Lake Edward with stunning views of the border-mountains of the Congo in a distance.

Day Six: Queen Elizabeth National Park to Ishasha

Have a morning game drive and transfer south to the Ishasha sector. Check in at the Lodge for lunch and relaxation. Enjoy a relaxed sunset game drive birding and in search of the tree climbing lions. The drive goes up to the river camp. Birds that we may see include the African grey Hornbill, Greater Honey-guide, Green winged Pytilia, Ovampo Sparrowhawk, Rufous napped Lark, Flappet Lark and many others.

Overnight stay: Ishasha Jungle Lodge (FB) or the Ishasha Wilderness Camp (FB)

Day Seven: Ishasha to Bwindi national Park (60km 2hrs / 150km 5hrs)

Today, we drive to Bwindi Impenetrable. On our way we bird as we drive through wooded and hilly villages, beautiful landscapes and the mountains with breath taking views. Bwindi Impenetrable is a unique montane forest with many wildlife species and birds. Bwindi is one of the 2 places in the world where you find the endangered Mountain Gorillas!!

Overnight stay: Gorilla Mist Camp (FB) or the Mahogany Springs Lodge (FB)

Day Eight: Bwindi Impenetrable forest on the trails Birding!!!

Early morning set off in the forest birding. Birds to see along the trails include the African Broadbill, Ashy Flycatcher, Banded Prinia, Black-billed Turaco, Bronze-naped Pigeon, Chin-spot Batis, Red-throated Alethe, Oriole Finch, Petit’s Cuckoo-shrike, Rwenzori Batis, White-bellied Robin chat. In the afternoon, go birding along the forest edges. It is possible to do the tracking of Gorillas!! You will have an hour with them for an experience that will last a life time (optional).

Overnight stay: Gorilla Mist Camp (FB) or the Mahogany Springs Lodge (FB)

Day Nine: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to Lake Mburo National Park 190km 5hr

We have breakfast and relax. We then drive leisurely through the mountains and cattle countryside to Lake Mburo. There are five lakes in the park. It is mostly woodland harboring beautiful bird species. Big animals in the park include leopards, hyenas, zebras and the rare Eland antelopes. Hippos and crocodiles are common on the lake. In the afternoon, go for a game drive. Birding along the tracks yields Tabora Cisticola, Green-backed Woodpecker, Coqui Francolin,  Red-faced Barbet and more. Return to the Lodge to relax with views of the park below.

Overnight stay: Rwakobo Rock (FB) or the Mihingo Lodge (FB)

Day Ten: Lake Mburo to Kampala or Entebbe

After a hot cup of coffee or tea, have a game walk to see birds at close proximity. It is a thrilling moment  birding in an African park on foot. Return to the lodge for breakfast.
